Pope Pastures will be closed until further notice!
The goal of Pope Pastures Farm is to offer higher-quality meat and eggs for informed consumers who are interested in taste, humane treatment of animals, and better stewardship of the environment. Pope Pastures offers pastured poultry and free roaming, hand gathered eggs. Our chickens have no phosphates, water weight, hormones, antibiotics, and are not exposed to any other flock. All of our animals are healthy and processed humanely and sanitarily by our family. At 6 to 8 weeks, they are tender, delicious, and 5 to 10 pounds of pure chicken! We do what is called "Pastured Poultry", which is basically the use of an open bottom moveable pen. The pen is there for their protection and shelter and is moved often to provide clean fresh grass constantly and all the insects they could want. That is what really makes pasture poultry taste so good and is what adds extra nutrients. By 6 to 8 weeks of age, our chicks are ready to be processed. At this age, they are all very tender so you can cook any of them, any way you choose. For more information on the nitty-gritty of pastured poultry, visit our Pastured Poultry page. Our eggs come from free-range, free roaming birds that really are free: no hens are ever debeaked, have their wings clipped or are confined in cages or barns. They can scratch in the dirt, sunbathe, scamper, roll in the dust or forage for insects whenever they like. Most eggs are large, although some are extra large or medium. Our chickens are not exposed to any other flock, and are healthy and lovingly kept. Our farm fresh, completely free range eggs are given no hormones or antibiotics. Did you know? A recent study showed that free-range eggs have 10% less fat, 40% more vitamin A, 34% less cholesterol, and 400% more omega-3 fatty acids.

About Us
We are Kevin and Nicole Pope. Last Year, our family moved to Brashear, Texas from NW Florida (50 miles east of Pensacola and 25 miles south of the Alabama border). We are a Christian, homeschooling, natural living family of six (8, 5, 2, and a new little one) in west Hopkins county! We have been raising and processing chickens for a few years now and were selling our eggs and broilers while we lived in Florida. We had a very happy and loyal group of folks who bought from us (homeschoolers, neighbors, natural food cooperative members, and friends)! But now that we have moved, we have to start all over again to let people know that we are here. We are a small family operation whose passion for animals, health, and delicious food has led us to offer our chickens and eggs for your table.

What's the difference??? Many people e-mail or stop us to ask, "What's the difference?" One of the reasons that we feel pastured based meat and animal by-products (like eggs) are so important is because of our appreciation of all living things. This type of farming promotes a stewardship of the environment and recognizes the need for all-natural, good tasting food for our families. Aside from taste, quality, and value (you do not pay for water and phosphates with our chicken - because there are none!), there are other factors that we consider important; including creating a family friendly environment for our children. We want the kids to be safe and cherish their time on the farm. We want to instill in them the value of hard work and a job well done. If you are interested in learning more about what has motivated and inspired us, visit Polyface Farms, the online home of Joel Salatin, author of our favorite book and the model for our farm, Family Friendly Farming: A Multi-Generational Home-Based Business Testament.
