History and General Information
The Nigerian Dwarf goat is a miniature dairy breed of West African origin. Their small stature means that they do not require as much space as larger dairy goat and their gentle, friendly personalities make them good companion pets and easy to handle - even small children can be at ease with these little goats. A healthy Nigerian Dwarf doe can produce a surprising amount of sweet milk for her small size - up to two quarts per day. In addition, Nigerian Dwarf milk is higher in butterfat (6-10%) and higher in protein content than most dairy breeds. However, many Nigerian Dwarf owners do not raise their goats for milk but for the pleasure and companionship that these little caprines bring to their lives. |

Their Wonderful Personalities
Dwarf goats are gentle and loveable. Their calm, reliable temperament and magnetic personalities make them good companions for everyone, including children, the disabled and the elderly. Even breeding bucks are handled easily. Because of their gentle temperaments, Nigerian Dwarfs make wonderful pets and great animal projects for children and young adults in FFA and 4H. Breeders of other types of goats find that their Dwarfs blend in with the rest of their herd and do not need special quarters; just adequate fencing to contain them because of their small size.

Nigerian Dwarf Dairy Goats and Pope Pastures
Here at Pope Pastures, we have a wonderful herd of multi-generation AGS registered purebred Nigerian Dwarf Goats with excellent bloodlines and exceptional temperaments. We have four full grown does (females), three yearling does (under one year old), one buckling (baby boy), and one buck (uncasterated male). Our goals not only include enjoying and sharing their wonderful milk, but also breeding them into beautiful colors. As we determine our breeding goals, we will be making members of our herd available for sale. |

Our New Upcoming Sire
Mr. Tumnus is the youngest member of our herd and our next sire. He is a wonderful fallow color, like is mama Mara. He will reach maturity in just a couple of weeks and we will be breeding him around January. He has a wonderful temperament, loves to be rubbed, and is very docile. |
Mr. Tumnus' Breeding Doe
Panda is by far our favorite goat in regards to color and temperament. She is very affectionate, but dedicated to her herd. Panda has no problem having her teats rubbed and handled. This is a good trait for a future dairy goat. She will be one year old in February. Does can be bred at 7- 8 months of age if they have reached a good size. We prefer to wait until they are at least 1 year old. Her dam is Abby, another family favorite. Both of these ladies are mellow, loving, and wonderful with our youngest, Logan. We are hoping for some beautiful color with the offspring of Tumnus and Panda. |

Absence of Fear
Abby is short for Absence of Fear. She is a beautiful buckskin pattern with contrasting facial stripe, a "cape" around the shoulders with coordinating leg markings. She is a wonderful mama and a great companion goat. We would love to breed her again, although we prefer to wait one year between kidding. So, she will probably be our next doe to freshen, sometime after January. |
Tumnus' Dam is the Beautiful Mara, Queen of the Herd
Goat herds always have a dominant doe or "queen". In our herd, it is Mara. She is Tumnus' dam and a superior leader of the group. She is cautious, yet always the one to check out any suspicious noise in the dark. She is reserved, yet affectionate. |

The Sire
Texas Blue (aka Tex or Bucker) is AGS registered and his bloodline has been registered back at least 3 generations. His bloodlines include Texas T9C TT Brown Eyes Blue, Creek Road Texas Twister, and Little Rascals Ace of Diamonds. Both his sire and dam were registered at least 3 generations back as well.
He was born 4/5/05 and has sired at least four groups of kids. He averages 50% does per "litter" with good birth weight, no kid mortality. I currently have 3 of his does and 1 buckling.
He is extremely tame and well mannered. He is isolated from the does but enjoys human company and would love company from the does. :-) He can be easily herded. He has a flight zone of less than 2 feet, but will let you pet him if he is comfortable. He has produced kids with every color pattern imaginable. Unfortunately, he was improperly disbudded and has scurs. Otherwise he is a beautiful buck! He is buckskin with black cape and face and china blue eyes.

Nigerian Dwarf Goats Available for Sale As our family has determined our breeding goals to maintain and create certain color patterns and personality types, we have decided to make a couple of our does available for purchase. Flower Flower is an multi-generational AGS registered doe with exceptional bloodlines, good kid birth weight, and comes from a line of good milk production. Flower herself has been freshened one time by another breeder and never milked. Although, Flower is still lactating, a good mother and shows good udder size and good rear udder attachment. Flower's coloring is a lovely tan with a pronounced white spot on her crown. She has a relatively tight flight zone, yet is very happy to receive treats. Therefore, she is easy to care for. I am confident that if someone would spend one on one time with Flower, she could become very friendly and affectionate. Although, at this time, with three children and a busy farm, I have been unable to spend the required time with her. Flower's pricing is based on her established ability to kid and lactate. She has established good udder size and attachment. SOLD ~ Thank you Michael and Bethany Mal of Palmer, TX |

Cinnamon Bun
Cinnamon Bun is a multi-generational AGS registered doe with exceptional bloodlines. Cinnamon Bun is the offspring to Flower. She will be one year old in February. If you read the above description of Flower, you know all about Cinnamon Bun as well. They are two peas in a pod. Although, Cinnamon Bun is a little more quick footed and less interested in treats. Although, once you get a hold on her, she is sweet as a Cinnamon Bun! Kevin and I will hold her, rub her belly and teats, cut her hooves, deworm her, the whole bit, while she lays still. I do not want to mislead you, we are still holding on to her, but she does not fight us and seems to enjoy the attention. Cinnamon Bun's pricing is based on her age, impressionability, and potential. Cinnamon Bun is show quality. She has so much potential to be a wonderful companion, dairy, or show goat. SOLD ~ Thank you Michael and Bethany Mal of Palmer, TX If you are interested in more information regarding wonderful goats available for sale or are interested in purchase, please contact Nicole or Kevin at 903-612-4098 or kanpope@cumbytel.com |
More Herd Family Photos Our goats have their own enclosed yard, but come out and graze during the day. We are currently working to get them a fresh grazing yard. In the meantime, they love to explore the property and taste all the yummy weeds! They never stray far and Mara is an exceptional herd queen. |
